ABOUT

The Counterfeit Cowboys evolved from Jim's original group "The Misfits" which he formed in the late 1950's. The original group performed throughout the United States, as well as in Europe and Southeast Asia, and was once in an early "60 Minutes" segment alluding to them as the band that brought early rock and roll to Southeast Asia. After moving to Nashville in the early 1970's, the group became known as the Counterfeit Cowboys, and traveled with Randy Boone of "The Virginian" and Nashville recording artist Laverne Layne throughout the United States until retiring from music in the late 1970's.

While in the military in the early 1980's the group was re-formed in Hawaii with some of the current members and they played the same club circuit that George Strait played during the mid-1970's. In the late 1980's the group began performing in the Nashville area with Jay Lee Webb (Brother to Loretta Lynn and Crystal Gayle). After retiring from performing for a few years, the Counterfeit Cowboys have been re-formed with several of the early members who are mostly now retired military, and are now booking shows throughout the Southeast.

The Counterfeit Cowboys organized and performed at the 2013 Children's Teddy Bear Festival held at the James E. Ward Agricultural Center, 945 East Baddour Pkwy, Lebanon, Tennessee. in support of the Monroe Carell, Jr. Children's Hospital at Vanderbilt. The band backed Leona Williams and Hawkshaw Hawkins Junior, along with others. During the festival, band leader "Jim Lusk" was honored with induction into the International Country Music Hall of Fame.

Once again, the Counterfeit Cowboys organized and performed at Teddy Bear Two. The "Teddy Bear Music Festival" has become a major annual event to help raise funds for the Children's Hospital. Teddy Bear Three will be held at the same location April 29 and 30, 2016, and again will feature the Counterfeit Cowboys, along with several Grammy award Nominees, artists from the stage of the Grand Ole Opry, RFD TV and numerous other venues. The Counterfeit Cowboys pride themselves in offering a repertoire of songs that will carry you on a journey taking you from the rock and roll golden oldies of the 50's and 60's, to the classic country songs of the 60's and 70's and 80's, the list just keeps going on and on.............
